Community Needs Assessment

Description
Needs assessments have been commonly used in international development and aid work for many years, and can help to give implementers a clearer picture of the overlapping and complex reality in which they’re working. Ways of working which are based on needs, rather than by the services an organization has been used to offering, are increasingly recognized as a better way to involve communities in design and ensure that the work is targeting the most important areas.

This workshop will look at needs assessment and project design methodologies through the lens of a communications and information needs assessment - a crucial aspect of any project or service. For a complete look at the program cycle, from design to evaluation, this session can optionally be paired with the Impact Evaluation workshop on Tuesday.

Desired Outcomes
Understand how to design, plan and carry out a community needs assessment, so that your organization can see how its work fits into broader needs and challenges, and service users have the chance to influence your activities.
